To My Brother ... My Best Friend

I hope you know that you are and always have been more than just a brother to me ... you have always been my best friend. It's been so easy sharing thoughts, feelings and secrets with you because we just naturally relate to and understand each other.

When one of us is blue the other knows full well how to elicit giggles and full bodied laughter to replace the gloom. You're always one to lend a quick hand to those in need,  your heart is big and you give from it willingly ... asking nothing in return.

A life time of experiences and our ability to be honest with each other, helped to create the true friendship we share, which is something rare and precious ... something I'll always treasure. Faith, trust, empathy and unconditional love helped see us both through some trying times.

Whenever I think of you, I am reminded of our childhood, the fun we had, and the dreams we shared ... all the pains and joys that we've seen each other through ... the many hours we shared in each other's company and the knowledge that we could count on each other because we cared, because we are family.

To my children: you were their babysitter, the uncle who would spoil them, and a 'big brother' to play with. You were the magician, the story teller, the builder of dreams and the destroyer of monsters.

To our sisters and brother: you were also a chauffeur; a big or little brother, someone with whom to laugh or get blamed for their mistakes. You are reliable and trustworthy and you always did more than was expected of you. You are there like some quiet rock in the forest ready to lend firm support when in need.

Having you as a brother, I've learned many things though nothing means as much as knowing that you've always been there for me that you're my brother  and my best friend ... ALWAYS ... no matter what.

Little brother, I was there for you when you came into this world  and when you took your first steps and I am here for you as you now as you leave this world and take your last walk on earth. Sleep well my friend ... we will all miss you deeply.

Lord, you must have wanted Ken for some very special purpose to take him away so soon ... I can only expect that you wanted to share time with this wonderful caring soul yourself. Lord, please understand that he comes to you in the shape of a brother ... and a dear friend; a husband and a father and though these may not be unique qualities in themselves ... they are indeed unique to us. Please watch over him Lord and keep him close by your side always. Amen
