One short time we had to share
[I hadn't planned, I couldn't know]
I didn't know that I would care
[And away that you would go]

I denied my love and I played the game
[My heart it aches; my breast is sore]
And as before love hurts the same
[Yet still I must come back for more]

I'd built a shell, its walls were thick
[You didn't lie; you didn't sneak]
In your gentle hands they came down quick
[I didn't know they were so weak]

No one knows of my sad plight
[The funny clown, the smiling face]
Or that I cry to sleep at night
[Who could ever take your place?]

My love for you it helps me live
[A love so common, yet so rare]
No more is there I have to give
[My darling, gentle, 'teddy bear'
